BOSTON, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An illegal alien from Mexico who previously resided in Hartford, Connecticut, was sentenced late yesterday in federal court on one count of illegal re-entry into the United States.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Bruce M. Foucart, Special Agent in Charge of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New England, announced that ERNESTO ALVARADO-SALDANA, age 38, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Morris E. Lasker to 4 years and 9 months in prison, to be followed by 2 years of supervised release. Upon completion of his prison term, ALVARADO-SALDANA also faces deportation to his native Mexico. On September 27, 2006, ALVARADO-SALDANA pleaded guilty to a one-count Indictment charging him with Illegal Re-entry into the United States.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the evidence would have proven that ALVARADO-SALDANA has two different alien files under different names and that the he illegally re-entered the United States after having been previously deported.

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan in Sullivan's Major Crimes Unit.
