Massive protests of government inefficiency tend to fold quickly once improvements have been made. It tells you something, then, that the Minuteman Project hasn't gone away.
Far from it, in fact: Minuteman organizers have revealed that they plan to take their volunteers to a second site along the U.S.-Mexican border to dramatize the ease with which illegal aliens enter this country.

Earlier this year, about 850 Minuteman volunteers spent several days patrolling a 23-mile section of the border between Arizona and Mexico. Their purpose was to spot people trying to sneak across the border, then alert U.S. Border Patrol agents. During the time Minuteman volunteers were involved, illegal entries into the United States along that 23-mile section of border were down noticeably from pre-intervention levels.

What the Minutemen proved was that secure borders are possible, providing enough personnel are available to patrol them.

Reportedly, the only reaction from the federal government has been an order that Border Patrol agents in Arizona should not arrest too many illegal aliens. Doing so would prove that, without the Minutemen, more people are sneaking across the border.

Lack of action has prompted the Minuteman Project to plan another border patrol, this one along the California-Mexico border in August.

Again, the Minutemen already have made their point once. How many more times must they dramatize government failures before action is taken to secure the border?
