The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps will return to Whatcom County’s northern border with Canada for three days this weekend in honor of Veterans Day.

The Minutemen, who just wrapped up a month-long watch of the border in October, will watch the border between Blaine and Sumas beginning at 10 a.m. Friday until 4 p.m. Sunday.

Their watch will coincide with others along the United States’ southern border with Mexico, said Claude LeBas, an operations manager for the Minutemen group in Whatcom County.

“We’re all veterans. We’re all in our 60s, said LeBas, who served as a Marine in Vietnam. “It’s just to let them know we’re still here and we care about this country.

The group will have roughly 30 volunteers on hand for its day and night operation.
