Commentary by American Patrol:

DON'T SELL OUT
The Minutemen Should Steer Clear of the Government

August 16, 2005

The Minutemen Project worked in two ways. First, there were additional eyes on the border to detect and report illegal border crossers. Second, the illegal crossers were afraid of them.

Does the Border Patrol know when and where illegal aliens cross the border? The answer is yes, for the most part they either do, or they have the technology to know.

Let us assume that the entire border is flooded with sensors and cameras and UAVs. Let us assume further that 99% of the illegal border crossers are detected.

Does the Border Patrol have the ability to apprehend all of them? The answer is no. Many crossings occur in very remote areas that are not accessible by wheeled vehicles. In other words, the Border Patrol can't reach them using conventional means. Illegal aliens sneak in along river beds, arroyos, and the like that are only accessible on foot.

The Border Patrol has sensors all along the border that are triggered almost continuously. They know where they are, they just can't reach them, or they don't have the resources to dispatch. A civilian volunteer force might be useful in sending out foot or horseback patrols to intercept aliens after they trigger the sensors. What would happen then? They would bring in the aliens who would then be processed and, for the most part, be returned to Mexico, only to try again.

A computer simulation model of border operations would quickly show just how futile the entire process is.

It will take at least two years to develop an organization and train the volunteers - probably longer. In the meantime, many of the leaders of the movement will be bought off.

People like Governors Richards and Napolitano are open border advocates and are just trying buy time by making it appear that they are doing something. After that they will insist that a guest worker program be passed by Congress.

The Minutemen should remain independent and seek their financial support directly from the people.

Finally, eventually we will realize that the only way to handle this problem is to build a physical barrier on the border and enforce immigration laws at the workplace.

The United States must become a gated community - just like where most of those financing the invasion live.
