The Missouri House of Representatives, Special Committee on Immigration Reform, is holding Hearings on the effects illegal immigration in Missouri.

Hearings already were held in Jefferson City, Troy, Kansas City and Joplin. The next Hearing is scheduled on July 27 in Cape Girardeau. A Hearing is still being organized for St. Louis on August 9 or 10. For information on the St. Louis Hearing and any future Hearings, contact Rose Granich, rose.granich@house.mo.gov

At the Legislative Breakfast held in Greenville, Missouri, on July 8, House Speaker Rod Jetton said that there are an estimated 50,000 to 75,000 Illegal Aliens agricultural workers in southeastern Missouri. Representative Billy Pat Wright, 159th District, who is a member of the Immigration Reform Committee, told the Legislative Breakfast audience about the Hearing to be held in Cape Girardeau.

These Hearings are for gathering information on the Illegal Aliens situation in Missouri. The Hearings are informal. Persons do not testify under oath.

Results of the Hearings will be forwarded to House Speaker Rod Jetton for appropriate action.

The meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. There will be a lunch break from 12:00 to 12:30. End time depends on the number of people who want to speak, but generally is 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

This Hearing is only for people in Missouri. If you live outside of Missouri, do not attend the Hearings in person. However, you may submit written testimony no matter where you live.

The Hearings are gathering information related to the effects of Illegal Aliens on businesses, schools, prisons, social services, hospitals, employment, private citizens and everything else affecting people in Missouri.

The Hearing format is 15 minutes of testimony from each speaker, followed by 15 minutes of questions from the Committee.
