ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York City man has been sentenced to three years of probation, including six months of home detention, for transporting an illegal immigrant.

Marlon Brand picked up a Venezuelan resident who was in the U.S. illegally in September. After picking up Judith Rivero on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation in northern New York, he began driving toward New York City.

Brand was stopped by a border patrol agent in Westville and was arrested. Rivero was convicted of re-entry of a removed alien, sentenced to a term of "time served" and remanded to the Department of Homeland Security for removal proceedings.

Brand pleaded guilty in January. At his sentencing Friday in federal court, the 49-year-old Queens resident was also fined $2,0000.
