In-State Tuition Approved For Illegal Immigrants
(AP) St. Paul The Minnesota Senate pushed forward a plan Wednesday to offer resident tuition rates to the foreign-born children of illegal immigrants, even though the bill faces an almost certain veto.

The senators voted 44-20 for the so-called "Dream Act," which was pulled out of a larger college spending bill after Gov. Tim Pawlenty objected to its inclusion.

The bill would offer the in-state tuition to foreign-born students living in the country illegally if they attended a Minnesota high school for at least three years and graduated. Each student would also have to submit an affidavit stating her intention to become a permanent U.S. resident.

The House has yet to take up the tuition bill, but a majority voted last month to keep it in a higher education spending package.

The Republican governor told lawmakers last month that he would not sign any legislation that includes the provision.
