KSDK -- St. Louis faith and community leaders hosted a vigil calling for immigration reform in Washington.

The crowd gathered outside Senator Claire McCaskill's office on Delmar Boulevard late this morning. Attendees said they want protection for immigrant families and they want Congress and President Obama to enact humane immigration reform.

Organizers said they are concerned with the direction the country is moving on immigration. They feel faith leaders can be a force of change.

The vigil was part of a nationwide movement called "Prayer, Renewal and Action on Immigration," touting vigils in more than 100 communities.

Senator Claire McCaskill office was called for a response to the vigil. A spokesperson said the senator favors bumping up "employer enforcement" of immigration laws. She said that under the Bush administration, there did not seem to be a real effort to encourage employers to police themselves and McCaskill is pushing hard to keep the issue at the forefront.

I LOVE IT ...
