Operation B.E.E.F. Goes to Washington -- DHS Challenged

Glenn Spencer of American Border Patrol reports that he received an excellent reception in Washington, D.C. as he delivered the year-end Operation B.E.E.F. report to members of Congress and the media Thursday and Friday of this past week. The report provides a detailed look at the status of the border fence and is in stark contrast with Department of Homeland Security claims of progress on the border fence. "We saw some jaws drop as people learned the truth about the border," Spencer said. "At one point, as we drove through the streets of Washington I got a call from a one Senator's office asking us to return for a special briefing of more senior staff members. They were truly impressed with what we had to show them," he added.

The report was also hand-delivered to a number of House offices, including those of Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo. Staff members seemed truly impressed. (The visit was done on short notice and many House members had already left D.C.)

Spencer spent nearly an hour with a Washington reporter going over the fine details of the report and the general issue of DHS honesty regarding border security. He said to expect a story in the paper next week.

Spencer also met with a former Reagan Cabinet member who suggested the possibility of a Senate Hearing on the issue of the veracity of DHS reporting on the border fence. He said if such a hearing could be arranged, American Border Patrol might be called as a witness, as might Homeland Secretary Chertoff.

Spencer said he expects some fireworks later on next week as the Operation B.E.E.F. report is checked out by staffers and members of the press. "They will find by looking at our double DVD set that our numbers hold up and that DHS has not been telling them the truth," Spencer commented.
