Senator files complaint about released undocumented immigrants

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) -- A Missouri Senator has filed a complaint with the Attorney General in connection with more than a dozen undocumented workers arrested at a Farmington construction site.

Senator Kevin Engler filed the complaint against the contractor Thomas Construction and its subcontractor.

Engler says all but one of the illegal immigrants was released by the St. Francois County Sheriff on the advice of the U.S. Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a statement released Tuesday, Engler says, "The unemployment rate in St. Francois County is at 11.1 percent. It is outrageous that illegal aliens were receiving more than $13 an hour when there are so many skilled local workers without jobs." Engler quotes a 2008 Missouri law that could force a business to lose its license for employing undocumented workers.
