VIRGINIA BEACH

A 25-year-old illegal immigrant was convicted in Circuit Court Tuesday of striking a restaurant security guard in the back of the head with a machete this summer.

Jurors deliberated for less than an hour before returning to announce they had found Marlon Ivan Granados-Umaña guilty of malicious wounding.

They recommended he serve 10 years in prison, and formal sentencing was set for March 16.

Granados-Umaña, a native of Honduras, was working for a local flooring company before his arrest July 12, according to testimony.

Before the attack, security guards had ordered Granados-Umaña and several of his friends out of Jalisco bar and restaurant on Virginia Beach Boulevard after they groped women taking part in a bikini contest, according to court testimony. The customers and guards began brawling.

Granados-Umaña used a machete he retrieved from a friend’s pickup truck to strike Travis Russell before running away. Russell needed 13 staples to close his wound.

Witnesses testified Granados-Umaña got into the rear of his friend’s pickup truck. A police officer testified that, as he pulled the vehicle over, Granados-Umaña jumped from the pickup and tossed the bloody machete onto the grass.

Granados-Umaña testified it was an acquaintance who struck Russell. He acknowledged throwing the machete onto the grass and running from police, but said it was only because he was scared because he didn’t have a Social Security number.

Gotta love these third world values. I'll just add this to my desk drawers full of folders with crimes committed by those with NO legal right to be in this country. Looks as if Americans will have to arm themselves with machetes as this seems to be the weapon of choice for illegal aliens. But I also forget the
molestation of women and children in third world countries is an
accepted ritual of manhood where the age of consent is 12.

These crimes are despicable and occur on a daily basis all over the country....and you don't hear one peep from the OBL's condemning the viciious lawlessness exhibited by many, many of the "undocumented"..

It is certainly lamentable and despicable that some idiots are targeting Latinos in crimes as in the recent beating of an Ecuadorian LEGAL immigrant/Realtor by some African-American assailants.....and the media is all over that.....but yet, when the four black NJ college-students were murdered by illegals from Peru, Mexico and El Salvador....they weren't charged with "hate crimes"........

...and more recently, an ECUADORIAN illegal alien murdered a Philadelphia man after the drunk illegal was escorted out of a bar and refused service.....where's the outrage for that?

These violent acts are despicable and have no place in our nation...but everyy single crime committed by an illegal ALIEN is 100% preventable if our borders were secured, our laws enforced and businesses and individuals wouldn't hire them....of course, it would certainly help if there was an end to sanctuary policies that cripple law enforcement and encourage more illegal aliens to commit crimes.

I don't get it! This illegal invader tries to decapitate someone with a machete and is convicted of malicious wounding?

Sounds more like attempted murder to me! And what..no additional enhancement charge of a hate crime added on either?
