Seven young men were arrested and several bundles of marijuana were seized early Tuesday morning as San Diego police and Border Patrol agents broke up a seaborne smuggling attempt, officials said.

A boat was spotted coming ashore about 1:30 a.m. at Windansea Beach in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego, officials said. As authorities closed in, the seven men were captured and bundles of marijuana began washing ashore.

Also early Tuesday morning, a suspected smuggling boat was spotted several miles away in the Sunset Cliffs area of San Diego. Thirteen people, thought to be illegal immigrants, were apprehended, officials said.

The two incidents are the latest in a series of smuggling attempts in which boats have landed on the beaches of San Diego County.
