Illegal immigrants arrested at military installation

FORT WORTH, Texas - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Wednesday arrested 11 illegal immigrants who had been working on construction projects at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, authorities said.
The men were from Mexico and had been contracted to work on various projects, including striping for parking lots, authorities said. They were arrested after agents checked documents of all non-military personnel at the installation.
In two similar operations in 2003, two dozen illegal immigrants were arrested at the military installation in Fort Worth.
Immigration officials have been targeting and removing illegal immigrants working at defense facilities, nuclear and chemical plants and airports. The process is ongoing, and one way to ensure security is to look at credentials of those entering the facilities, said John Chakwin, special agent-in-charge of the ICE Dallas office.
Among arrests in December were some illegal immigrants working at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M., and some working for a company providing workers to the New Orleans International Airport, ICE officials said.
