The Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce held its third of four public forums on immigration Tuesday, focusing on law enforcement issues.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap headed the panel of speakers, which also included business owner Clift Dempsey, Director of Constituent Services for US Rep. Phil Gingrey’s Office Jeanette Hutchison, and Cartersville Code Enforcement Officers Tim Jones and Chris Williams.

Millsap said there were 39 Hispanic inmates in jail Monday, 29 of them born in Mexico. Eleven of those, all of which have charges of trafficking methamphetamine pending, were being held for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities. Hispanic inmates represented 7.5 percent of the jail’s total 521 inmates.
