More Than 10.5 Million Truck Crossings Into the U.S. in 2012

Personal vehicles entered the United States nearly 96 million times in 2012, 33.1 million from Canada, and 62.7 million from Mexico, according to a new report from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Border crossings also included 10.7 million trucks, 320,000 buses, and 37,000 trains in 2012.

In 2012, goods valued at more than $1.11 trillion crossed the U.S. border in trade with Canada and Mexico, 5% higher than in 2011 and 21% higher than 2010.

Truck crossings from Canada totaled 5.6 million while those from Mexico were at 5.1 million.

Total trade with Canada and Mexico in 2012 amounted to a little more than $1.1 trillion, up 22% from 2007, with nearly $665 billion of that moved along roadways, by far the most of any mode that also includes air, vessel, rail and pipeline.

Total trade with Canada equaled $616 billion, up 9.7% from 2007 through 2012, with more than $341 billion of that moved over the road, a nearly 5.2% increase during the same time.

Total trade with Mexico was nearly $494 billion, up 42% from 2007 through 2012, with $323 billion of that moved over the road, an almost 40.5% jump during the same time.
