    More than 120 street gang members have been arrested in raids in North Texas cities

    Associated Press - July 23, 2007 8:05 PM ET

    DALLAS (AP) - More than 120 street gang members have been arrested in raids in North Texas cities.

    Immigration officials today announced several of those arrested during the weeklong operation are US citizens with pending warrants.

    Some already been returned to their home countries or are being processed for deportation.
    Others are being prosecuted for re-entering the US following deportation.
    They represented members of 27 gangs.

    Arrests were made through Sunday morning in Arlington, Irving, Fort Worth, Dallas, Gainesville and Wichita Falls with the help of police in each city.

    Farmers Branch police also assisted.

    The federal arrests -- with help from local law enforcement -- were part of Operation Community Shield.
    The effort started more than two years ago after the feds identified the MS-13 gang, or Mara Salvatrucha.

    If Dallas is anything like Los Angeles arresting 120 gangbangers won't even be noticed on the streets.
