(Reuters) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and fellow Democrats on Thursday unveiled a "framework" for a sweeping overhaul of U.S. immigration laws.

In wake of the furor over Arizona's crackdown on illegal immigrants, Democrats said the first step toward reform must be bolstered border security.

They also called for creation of a high-tech identification card for immigrant workers, a new process to admit temporary workers, "tough sanctions" against U.S. employers who hire illegal immigrants, and, eventually, a path toward U.S. citizenship for people in the country unlawfully.

With an estimated 10.8 million illegal immigrants in the United States, Reid said, "Democrats and Republicans can all agree that our immigration system is broken" and called for bipartisan cooperation to fix it.

Reid said the "framework" is based on months of negotiations that involved Senator Charles Schumer, a member of the Democratic leadership.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was also in those talks and last week said more work needed to be done before any such legislation is brought before Congress to consider.

Graham accused Reid, who is in tough re-election campaign, of prematurely pushing immigration reform in an effort to rally Hispanic voters in his home state of Nevada.

I guess you people think if you keep saying our immigration system is broken it will be so. Well, they ONLY thing BROKEN about it... is that OUR IMMIGRATIONS SYSTEM IS IGNORED! It worked fine when it was enforced. Your sickening, absolutely sickening!

Notice how the number keeps getting lower and lower. I"m sure some have went home, but with thousands still pouring across the border each day I can't see how it would be lower than the usual 12 million figure they try to throw at us!

I have thought the same thing. It has to be 20 - 30 million!!! I worked at a metro hospital and boy did I see them dropping babies left and right. Just going up and down the street you see them everywhere!!

Republicans do know our system is broken and THEY have a better idea how to fix it, Harry. Suggest you approach them and find out so YOU can become bipartisan.

How about just enforce our laws and do away with the poop a baby out it's a citizen mistake/rule/ what ever you call it. That needs to end immediately. Everyone out there needs to request a food stamp application form from your state and read how it is worded to allow illegal immigrants and their families 500 600 700 a month JUST in food stamps. This is a travesty of epic proportions when our own government uses our tax dollars to feed illegal immigrants! Even if they were just immigrants it would still be utterly insane. WTF? That has got to end as well. This attempt to take over America from the inside runs deeper than some of the sheeple realize. These people must be stopped before our way of life is gone forever. I'll not go down without a fight. Our sorry azz government needs to get busy deporting these criminals before Americans take the job on ourselves. Enough is enough.

I also think we need to infiltrate Spanish speaking forums on the internet and start dropping hints that the time to self deport is now while pretending to be one of them. We need to start spreading the news that the time has come to take our country back. We must get the word out.
