MADRAS, Ore. -- A nearly eight-month investigation led to a raid on a Madras apartment and the arrest of a suspected illegal immigrant on several drug charges, authorities said Tuesday.

Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team detectives executed a search warrant around 6 p.m. last Thursday on an apartment at 950 Madison St., said Lt. Ken Mannix.

During the investigation of drug sales from the apartment, detectives identified Horacio Galan Gonzalez, 31, as involved in methamphetamine distribution throughout the region, Mannix said.

Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident during the raid, in which detectives seized about 2 1/2 ounces of meth, digital scales and a firearm.

Gonzalez was lodged at the Jefferson County Jail on second-degree charges of drug possession, delivery and manufacture, and first-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Bail was set at $100,000 pending a Thursday court hearing. A jail booking officer confirmed Gonzalez was being held on a detainer for federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.PrintEmail
