European Legislators Visit Border, Slam Walls

European Legislators Visit Border, Slam Walls
Frontera NorteSur (Las Cruces, NM), January 15, 2006
Wrapping up a four-day meeting with Mexican lawmakers, European legislators visited the border cities of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, and Laredo, Texas, late last week. During the meeting of the Mexico-Europe Mixed Parliamentary Commission, European representatives criticized the recent US House of Representatives' vote to approve new border walls. 'We have the same immigration problems in Europe,' said European representative Erika Mann. 'Many people enter through Spain from Africa, but we never have thought about erecting a wall, nothing of the sort. The United States should reconsider its position.'
Mann was joined in her criticisms by Austrian lawmaker Eva Lichtenberger, who said she was surprised and offended by having to submit to finger-printing while crossing over to Laredo on the US side. 'It's really strange, because if you all have a trade agreement like NAFTA, one would imagine equal treatment between partners,' Lichtenberger said.
The US Ambassador to Mexico, Tony Garza, meanwhile, responded to the growing wave of criticism in Mexico and internationally over the House's approval of the Sensenbrenner bill and its provision for new border walls. In a January 13 communique, Garza denied the US House's action will result in one 2,000 mile-long wall along the US-Mexico border, adding that allegations heard in Mexico and elsewhere of US racism and xenophobia were 'pernicious.'
Adding his voice to similar statements made last week by US President George W. Bush and US Representative Tom Tancredo, Garza asked Mexico to respect US sovereignty and differentiate between legal and illegal immigration. He said the US granted 36,000 immigrant visas to Mexican citizens in 2005 alone. Garza also urged Mexico to improve its employment picture. 'Creating good-paying jobs for its citizens would help dissuade many of them to undertake the dangerous and illegal crossing to the US,' Garza said.
In Mexico, the Sensenbrenner bill and related border- immigration issues are prompting a fresh look at the country's international relations. Criticizing the planned border walls and the treatment of Mexican migrants in the US, the vice-president of the Mexico-Europe Mixed Parliamentary Commission said the visit of the European delegation could represent one step toward reducing Mexican dependency on the US. 'Interaction with Europe is fundamental. Mexico can't continue looking only at the US,' said Carlos Jimenez Marias. '(Mexico) can't continue putting all of its eggs in one basket.'Support our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & Amnesty by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn

And they don't understand what it means to have a "trading partner" under NAFTA like Mexico!!
But folks, these are the people who make up the WTO. These are the people who will decide the fate of our borders under current FTA's and WTO Membership and the all sneaky Security and Prosperty Partnership "Pact" of this Traitorous Treason Treaty Promoter Wackident!!

Well, unfortunately our Wackident and US Congress have already given them, the WTO, authority under the WTO membership agreement and all 38 Free Trade Agreements.
This is the transfer of "sovereignty" that so infuriates me and all of us.
They've already given them the power to decide our lives.
We need to take it back and very very soon!

We shall do that..forthwith..
We haven't had millions of men and women give their lives for our freedoms, our nation in order to turn it over by one very small group of corrupt individuals..whether those are elected traitors to congress or the presidency.
It's past time to forget party politics...Dem or Rep doesn't matter one whit when our very nation is on the line.

What Erika Mann must understand that the wave of illegal immigration in the US is much higher than in the EU. Mexico and the US share a land border of 2,000 miles. Spain and the African continent maybe share a SEA border of not even 50 miles on the small southern tip of Spain at Tarifa. and hardly anyone crosses the Eastern EU border as the new member state like Hungary and the Baltic states protect their borders better than we Americans do.
