Thread: Critics Blast App to Aid Illegal Immigrants

A cell phone application that will help illegal immigrants find water and key landmarks as they cross into the United States is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds and an irresponsible use of technology, critics say.

The Transborder Immigrant Tool (TBT), the brainchild of three faculty members at the University of California-San Diego and a colleague at the University of Michigan, is a software application that can be installed into a GPS-enabled cell phone. In addition to helping immigrants locate water and landmarks, it also could alert them to Border Patrol checkpoints. And to make the trek a little less arduous, it also plays recorded poetry.

“I don’t think it’s an appropriate use of technology,â€

Seems like it would be good to use this app---and take your cordless drill along, too. It would make for a good wintertime hike.

Just wait til a group of poor immigrants suffer needlessly in the dessert because the app FAILED. The university will be sued and taxpayers will pay millions to settle the case......

We need to ensure that each and every border patrol officer has access to this application.

These folks are working against the interest of a sovereign country, and that, in my book is treason!

Is this a new term meaning unconditional amnesty?

Yet another aiding and abetting case...where is law enforcement!!

What a colossal and sick joke! They are going to give the cells away to a Mexican nongovernment agencies and churches? What do these fools actually think will happen to those cells? They'll be sold for top $$$$$ to smugglers and drug cartels..DUH! Nice chunk of change for the agencies and churches, who will claim they didn't know they were selling them to smugglers and drug cartels.

I wonder if these so-called "professors". oh wait, 2 are "ASSISTANT" professors lol, have any family members who are here illegally or married to illegals??

Oh yeah, CA college students are rioting because of tuition hikes, but whoa..plenty of cash to waste on illegal aliens, no?
