More than 2,700 Mississippians have signed a petition that asks Sen. Trent Lott to reconsider his position on immigration reform, said a local radio host who led the effort.

The petition, also signed by an additional 500 people from around the country, was delivered to Lott’s downtown Jackson office this morning by talk radio personality Kim Wade and 20-30 others.

Advertisements run on local television stations across the state encouraged residents to sign the petition.

Wade, working in conjunction with public policy organization Numbers USA, said he hopes the petition prevents the the bill from coming to a floor vote in the Senate.
