MSP identifies driver in Fruitland fatal crash

FRUITLAND — The driver who exceeded 100 mph and caused a multi-car accident which killed his passenger last Saturday near Route 13 and Hayward Avenue has been identified an a 22-year-old illegal Hispanic immigrant who has had run-ins with other law enforcement agencies, Maryland State Police said Thursday.

State Police have charged Silas Soto with three charges — negligible manslaughter by vehicle, negligible automobile homicide while under the influence and negligible homicide by vehicle while impaired — after injuring six people and killing his passenger who is still unidentified by police.

The arrest warrant lists Soto’s charges against John Doe. He is believed to have been drinking prior to the accident.
