CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The new Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief, Rodney Monroe, is considering eliminating or reducing the department’s International Relations Unit and other specialized units in an effort to put more officers on the streets, sources told Eyewitness News.

"I'm a little concerned about the rumors," said Mecklenburg County Commissioner Dan Ramirez. "They tried to say, or tell us, that (the CMPD is) going to disband the international unit of the police department. I think it's an important unit in this area.â€
