Happy Apples Owner Pleaded Guilty To Hiring Illegal Immigrants

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The state Department of Economic Development revoked a tax credit for a woman who pleaded guilty to employing illegal immigrants.

The department said Monday that it has revoked a $1,400 tax credit received by Joette Reidy, of Washington, Mo., in 2007 for contributing money to the Washington Historical Society.

Reidy pleaded guilty later that same year to hiring at least 10 illegal immigrants at Lochirco Fruit and Produce Inc., which does business as Happy Apples.

The department said this is the first time it has revoked a tax credit for a business or individual for hiring illegal immigrants.
