WASHINGTON, D.C.

Rep. Gary Miller, R-Calif. (42nd CD), issued the following news release:

Congressman Gary Miller called on President Obama today to help American workers by reclaiming the seven million jobs held by illegal immigrants.

The White House convened the jobs summit to address criticism that the Administration's policies have not generated American jobs.

To date, any debate of the millions of jobs occupied by illegal immigrants has been absent from the Administration's agenda.

In the meantime, the unemployment rate is over 10 percent nationally and over 12 percent in California.

Today, Congressman Miller issued the following statement criticizing the Administration's continued refusal to create jobs by enforcing our nation's immigration laws:

"Currently, it is estimated that seven million illegals are employed while 16 million Americans are unemployed. With the national unemployment rate at a 26-year high, it is time the Administration enforce current immigration laws and crack down on the hiring of illegal aliens.

Although the Administration's method of measuring saved and created jobs is highly questionable, worksite enforcement actions have a proven track record of saving and creating American jobs.

By simply enforcing immigration laws, President Obama could create seven million jobs for citizens and legal workers."

Congressman Miller's statement follows a letter last month in which he and 21 other Members of Congress responded to President Obama's call for job-creation suggestions. The members suggested that the Administration enforce current immigration laws to open up seven million jobs for citizens and legal immigrants.

In addition to Congressman Gary Miller, the letter was signed by Representatives Lamar Smith, Steve King, Brian Bilbray, Jack Kingston, Darrell Issa, Bob Goodlatte, Randy Forbes, Jason Chaffetz, Gregg Harper, Howard Coble, John Carter, Ginny Brown-Waite, Rodney Alexander, Doug Lamborn, Michael McCaul, Sue Myrick, Todd Akin, Phil Gingrey, John Fleming, Elton Gallegly, and Peter King.
