A MUST READ!! Making The Case (Against) Immigration!

Note: The Wall Street Journals published this trashy editorial on the ENORMOUS BENEFITS of immigration; but the TWO REBUTTAL COMMENTS
    are PRICELESS!

The second rebuttal comment by Reporter/USA...is probably the BEST argument AGAINST immigration that I have ever read! I'm spreading this rebuttal around to everyone on my mailing list! I love it!

    Making the Case for Immigration

Immigration brings enormous benefits to poor countries and rich ones, advantages that are threatened by the rising backlash against migrants in affluent countries, says the Economist in a special report on immigration.

Prosperous societies with aging workforces benefit from new foreign labor. Highly educated immigrants bring much needed scientific skills. Poorer countries also benefit from immigrants, although immigration between developing-world countries is usually due to “push factorsâ€

I would just note a couple things here -

1). I don't agree that there is 'no value in allowing immigration into the US'. There is. But the justification that is too commonly used - 'economic necessity' - is simply a rationalization by big business and greedy businesspeople seeking slave-like workers. A careful and limited injection of people from other places and cultures is not, in itself, a bad thing.

2). Rome never perished due to "Insufficient Funds". It perished because of a lack of cohesion and control over it's own society. Rome fragmented and then imploded. Similarly, many poor countries exist and persist even in this present day.

3). Although his economic example is not complete by any stretch, it is useful in showing how people that argue for greater illegal or even legal immigration carefully tailor their words and terms to justify an action (or inaction, for that matter).

As usual, the OBL neocon writers at the WSJ don't disappoint. It's just like clockwork! Or, another way of saying it, might go:
'it's all about money for us - you, and the laws, be damned'.

    Hi Phred...

Your comments are very valid - CONTROLLED immigration is a good thing; however, I say we have far exceeded the necessity for immigration on any level. There is a point in time when out-of-control immigration turns into a liability... we are paying for it now. IMO, we need a moratorium on ALL immigration until the dust settles. Uhfortunately, the floodgates have burst and we can't stop the flow.

I found the writer's comments on the 'per capita' GDP comparison to the entire GDP...to be pretty accurate. We are seeing the evidence in almost every sector of the labor force.

I shudder to think of what will happen if amnesty is bestowed on 38M illegals because they will be bringing all of their relatives to further dilute the per capita GDP!

    population

Excuse me for being corny--one of the great wealths of America has been its people. Its other great wealth is its natural resources. We are a land of plenty. To some this translates to unlimited resources. This is a serious fallacy. The resources of any nation should be husbanded and managed in a fashion that is not only good for the people but good for the land. All things should be in balance.

I recently shared an article I had read with a friend. In the article , a young lady was flying from New York to Boston. Her comment dealt with the fact that she did not understand why everyone was in conflict about illegal immigration, after all, as she flew cross-country, she saw miles and miles of open land from the plane. To my surprise, my friend thought she was correct, he said there is a large amount of open land that could have homes built and handle a significantly larger population. I kept my counsel, but was surprised that he agreed with the young lady, especially since he was so conservative about other issues.

I am happy that there are sites on the internet that provide information from knowledgable, honest people. I cite the Heritage Foundation, the Economic Policy Institute and the Center for Immigration Studies. There are others that provide good information as well as others that are openly standing on one side of the issue or the other. I will simply say that no reputable, balanced center agrees that the influx of illegal immigrants has helped the American economy or its people. The immigrants have , indeed, helped the owners and employers who avoid paying higher wages to Americans and thus, to increase their own personal wealth. Sad to say, this criminal behavior by employers runs across the complete gamut of small companies to large corporations.

In many cases, the immigrants use false IDs and do indeed pay taxes in someone else's name to add to the tax base and the SS coffers. Many of them, however, are paid "under the table", so-no benefit at all to America, only to the employer in a form of "profit slavery". In the case where the taxes are filed in names of the deceased (for example), the amount of taxes are far less than would be collected on the wages of an American employee.

The addition of the children of these illegal immigrants to our schools and the use of our health facilities, where, by law, no one can be turned away imposes a severe burden on America and its legal citizens. We cannot continue on this way. The recent dwnturn in the economy should show any thinking person how disastrous the impact will be if we should go into a full recession or a depression. There will be millions more, yes, millions more of people with no income and not enough money to go home. Who will support them?? What do we as Americans have to do in that situation??

Well , I am compassionate, but not blindly so. I do not, as an individual, have the right to share what belongs collectively to citizens with outsiders. I am an America first citizen. I am tired of hearing how the economy will collapse without the illegal workers. It is a flat outright lie by those who profit from violating our laws. Those employers who steal the food from the mouths of American citizens to enrich their own personal wealth. We have a government that has lost sight of the American people and all that America is, or should I say, was.

We need to remove the elected officials who are pro-amnesty and who put profit before patriotism. We need to put the brakes on free trade and build a "fair trade" system. We need to see that our citizens are taken care of first. The dole and the nanny stae need to be eliminated. We need to provide an economy that has jobs for Americans. After all, when the next big attack comes, and it will, who will be fighting for America?????

How can an American company compete with an economy that pays their employees 36 cents and hour (China)? Why are Mattel, Fisher-Price and many other companies moving their factories and jobs there?? Nafta was supposed to move some of these jobs to Mexico. When the corporate executives found they could get labor cheaper in Asia, goodbye Mexican jobs! I hate to say it, but it is time for some protectionism policies. We need to keep our own citizens gainfully employed. We need to keep our GDP per worker at the same or higher levels. We even have a President who, against the opposition of our Congress is allowing trucks from Mexico to traverse (violate) our land as he prepares for a New World Order in which our stevedores and truckers will have a significant decrease in the numebr of jobs as we enrich Mexico, China and Canada with our former jobs. We will establish Mexico as the country with the port of choice for shipping from Asia. We will provide the highways, owned and managed by other countries' corporations on American land seized by the once fair law of Eminent Domain.

The war that we are involved in , in America is not really with Iraq. As in the case of the old miner strikes and the UAW strikes, it is against the employers. This time , though, it is not a war whose issue is the amount of money an employee earns and raises. It is a war against the healthy economy of the USA and the removal of jobs for Americans, completely, versus salary increases and benefits. It must stop. We are getting weaker every day. The executives, and even the small businessman are about maximizing profits, not about supporting America.

We must use Attrition by Enforcement to remove the additional slave laborers from our population. We must look at strengthening America as in the past. We must reinstall pride in our great country in our children. If we do not act soon, there will not be many reasons for our children to be proud.

I have a fear and a recurring dream. I dream this once great republic has rioting and violence in the streets as its people fight against the elite few who would destroy the country for their own gain.

I am of an age that I may not be here to see it. I pray every day that it will not happen. I look at the slate of candidates and I see people , who, if elected, will hasten that day. I am tired of being a second class citizen in my own country and I see only a couple of candidates who would reverse what is happening and I do not think they will be in the final election.

    Bravo, misterbill!!!

And the two candidates of whom you speak will most certainly not be on the ballot! We, the People, will be heard...our voices will not be silenced!
