CBP Officers Stop 12 ‘Imposters’ at Nogales Port of Entry

Immigration Violators Discovered Attempting to Use Others’ Documents

Nogales, Ariz. – While screening travelers applying for admission into the United States, Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dennis DeConcini port of entry in Nogales on Friday stopped twelve people trying to enter illegally by using documents that belong to someone else.

The string of illegal entry attempts began at a little before 10 a.m. yesterday, when officers apprehended a 27-year-old Mexican man attempting to enter the country by using someone else’s immigration document. When officers discovered the attempt, the man was taken into custody for immigration processing.

The last incident happened just before 8:30 p.m., when officers apprehended a 26-year-old Mexican man who also attempted to enter the country using immigration documents that belong to someone else.

All twelve Mexican men and women, who range in age from 18- to 53-years-old, were processed as immigration violators and either returned to Mexico after being barred from entering the United States or are being held in custody for possible prosecution on identity theft charges.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
