U.S. BORDER PATROL Weekly Blotter: (11/26/2010)

Border Patrol agents seized over 11,998 pounds of marijuana. Agents arrested seven criminal aliens and eleven gang members. There were five rocking incidents.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the 18th Street gang with a prior felony conviction in the state of California for transporting/selling narcotics. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject was a member of the Sureños gang with a prior felony conviction in the state of California for vehicle theft. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of California for a sex offense against a minor under 14. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near El Paso, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Texas for burglary, and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,497 pounds of marijuana, a Ford pickup truck, and arrested a juvenile United States Citizen (USC) near Pharr, Texas. Agents conducting line watch operations observed the truck traveling south towards the Rio Grande River with its headlights off. Agents then observed several subjects loading suspected narcotics into the rear of the vehicle. Agents initiated a vehicle stop and the driver failed to yield. Shortly thereafter, the driver stopped and absconded from the vehicle. Agents tracked and located the driver, and the marijuana was discovered in the vehicle.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Calexico, California. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the South Central Rolling 40’s gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history, and had previously been removed from the United States.


Marfa Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Midland, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had a prior conviction in the state of Texas for importation of a controlled substance and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Hidalgo, Texas. Records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for sexual assault of a minor issued in the state of California. The subject had also previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico, seized 1,033 pounds of marijuana and a .38 Colt handgun, and recovered a stolen Chevrolet pickup truck near Alamo, Texas. Agents observed bundles of suspected narcotics being loaded into the vehicle near the Rio Grande River. The truck left the area and agents performed a vehicle stop. The driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to abscond, discarding the weapon. Agents pursued and arrested the driver, and recovered the handgun. The marijuana was found in the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,052 pounds of marijuana South near Menegers, Arizona. Agents were following the tracks of suspected illegal aliens when they discovered the backpacks of marijuana abandoned in a remote area of the desert.

Detroit Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Detroit, Michigan. Records checks revealed the subject was wanted for murder in Mexico.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador near Fronton, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Mara Salvatrucha 13 (MS-13) gang. Records checks revealed the subject had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,113 pounds of marijuana, a Chevrolet Suburban, and arrested two illegal aliens from Mexico near San Juan, Texas.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,052 pounds of marijuana near Menegers, Arizona. The marijuana was found abandoned in backpacks.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 2,139 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Suburban near Cocklebur, Arizona. A CBP Office of Air and Marine (OAM) air unit spotted the vehicle in the desert and led agents to the location. The marijuana was found inside the abandoned vehicle.

El Centro Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near Ocotillo, California. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Sureño gang. Records checks revealed the subject had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,409 pounds of marijuana and a Chevrolet Tahoe near Los Ebanos, Texas. A CBP OAM air asset advised agents of a possible narcotics smuggling attempt near the Rio Grande River. Agents responded to the area and began following the Tahoe which had turned around and was driving back towards the river. The passenger in the vehicle began throwing home-made road spikes onto the roadway in an attempt to disable Border Patrol vehicles. The driver and passenger abandoned the Tahoe near the river and absconded into Mexico. Agents discovered the marijuana in the vehicle.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 347 pounds of marijuana, 45 hypodermic needles, a small amount of heroin, and arrested a USC near Sonoita, Arizona. The subject initially failed to yield during a vehicle stop, but eventually yielded. The marijuana, syringes and heroin were found in the vehicle.

El Paso Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near the Bridge of the Americas Port of Entry in El Paso, Texas. During processing, the subject admitted to being a member of the Paisa gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had previously been removed from the United States.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Brownsville, Texas. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Mexican Mafia gang. Records checks revealed the subject had an extensive criminal history and had previously been removed from the United States.

San Diego Sector – A Border Patrol agent arrested an illegal alien from Mexico near San Diego, California. The subject actively resisted arrest, but the agent was able to subdue him and take him into custody. During processing, records checks revealed the subject had an active warrant of arrest for rape by force issued in the state of California.


Tucson Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,003 pounds of marijuana near Menegers, Arizona. The marijuana was found abandoned in a remote, mountainous area of the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation.

Buffalo Sector – Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien from Mexico in Erie, Pennsylvania. During processing, the subject was identified as a member of the Locos 13 gang. Records checks revealed the subject had previously been removed from the United States.


Laredo Sector – Border Patrol agents rescued a subject from the Rio Grande River near Laredo, Texas. After the subject submerged and failed to resurface, an agent went into the river and pulled the subject to shore. The agent performed CPR until the subject regained consciousness and became responsive. Local emergency medical services responded and transported the subject to a local hospital.


Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 1,353 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a USC at the traffic checkpoint near Sarita, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer. A subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.
