They might deport some of them but.............they'll be back!

As I recall, some of the illegal workers deported from that chicken processing plant in AR were back within a week.

If I could get them back to do BaldHead Island again I would buy all of the agents lunch at Golden Coral near Southport. They could load another bus full while eating lunch with all the illegals that go in there.

    OPERATION SECURE STREETS
60 illegal immigrants arrested in 3-day sting
Effort in Charlotte targets those with DWI and other convictions

Federal authorities in Charlotte say they arrested 60 illegal immigrants, including one hiding in a kitchen cabinet, during a three-day sting that ended Friday.

The arrests were part of Operation Secure Streets, a program created last year by the local fugitive Immigration Customs Enforcement team to target DWI offenders and other illegal immigrants who have disregarded deportation orders.

"Many of those arrested selfishly and recklessly got behind the wheel of a vehicle while intoxicated, putting their lives and the lives of the public at risk," said Felicia Skinner, acting field office director for the ICE Detention and Removal office in Atlanta.

For example, one of the illegal immigrants, Evis Hernandez, 33, had been ordered removed from the country in 1999, but ICE agents don't think he ever left.

Richard Rocha, an ICE spokesman, said agents found Hernandez in Charlotte along with a record, including an October 2005 arrest for drunken driving. According to Mecklenburg County sheriff records, Hernandez has been arrested at least three times on DWI offenses since 2004.

Hernandez's 2005 arrest was before the sheriff joined a federal program that allows his deputies to place arrested illegal immigrants into removal proceedings. Since beginning the program in April 2006, the sheriff has placed more than 1,200 illegal immigrants into removal proceedings.

The ICE fugitive team found the Honduras native Thursday morning in his East Charlotte duplex.

"He was doubled over in this kitchen cabinet," said Rocha, who attended the raid. "He was definitely hiding from us."

Those arrested came from Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Gambia.

Nearly two dozen had previous drunken driving convictions. The remaining individuals were either fugitives, foreign-born nationals with other criminal convictions, or those deemed in violation of immigration laws. The criminal convictions range from indecency with a child and larceny to domestic violence, and assault and battery.

The fugitive criminal immigrants had been ordered removed by a federal immigration judge but failed to comply with the orders.

Like previous raids, news of arrests is spreading quickly through the Spanish-speaking community and raising concerns among many immigrants.

"People are frightened to leave their homes," said Maudia Melendez, head of the local advocacy group, Jesus Ministry. "They are afraid when they hear a knock on the door. Children are very afraid that their parents are going to be taken away."

According to Rocha, Operation Secure Streets was created last year in Charlotte in response to the 2005 death of a Mount Holly teacher, Scott Gardner, who was killed by an illegal immigrant driving drunk.

Two previous stings in April and November led to the removal of more than 200 illegal immigrants from the Charlotte area, ICE officials said.

Based on the success in Charlotte, ICE took the program to Boston last month, where agents arrested 35 fugitive illegal immigrants.

"Charlotte is one of the model cities in the country when it comes to partnerships with local government and federal authorities," Rocha said.
