MINT HILL, N.C. -- A man that immigration officials have been looking for for three years was caught in Charlotte after allegedly breaking into a Mint Hill home.

Jambarli Gomez, 25, was told to leave the country in 2005 and when he didn't, a warrant for his deportation was put out.

On Monday, Gomez was accused of breaking into a home in broad daylight. Police said he likely did not realize someone was home.

Gomez and 16-year-old Marlon Mendieta were arrested nearby.

Mint Hill police said Gomez admitted to the break-in, but never gave officers his name.

When he was fingerprinted at the jail, the warrant popped up and now Gomez will likely be shipped out of the country.

Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department officials said Gomez claims he's from Mexico, but his formal paperwork says he's from Honduras.

It's unclear which country he'll be sent back to.

Mint Hill police are now looking to see if the two men are linked to a recent rash of home break-ins in a nearby neighborhood.

Here's hoping that he sits in Mecklenburg County 287g lock-up for a long, long time awaiting determination of his country of origin. My biggest regret is that the deportation hold orders don't include hard labor! It irritates me that we have to give international criminals better treatment than the domestic convicts in our jails.

I'd believe his formal paperwork over him, deport him to Honduras, AFTER he serves time.
