JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) _ Police say they went to a construction site here after a tip that illegal immigrants were working there.

Cpl. Tom Nagel said the Jamestown Police Department got the tip late Wednesday afternoon from a woman who said she was from the North Dakota Association of Builders.

Police called the U.S. Border Patrol in Grand Forks. Nagel said six Hispanic men were taken into custody by the Border Patrol and one man was released.

The police could not find the foreman, but spoke to the workers.

"Some of them couldn't speak English well and couldn't provide ID," Nagel said.

The men told police they were subcontracted for the job by a drywall firm, he said.

"These guys we picked up, they looked like hard workers. They were cooperative," he said.
