SEATTLE — A Canadian resident arrested two years ago in a smuggling ring investigation will not serve any additional prison time under a sentence handed down by a federal judge.

Jin Kyu Sohn, 44, of Vancouver, British Columbia, has been in custody since his arrest for smuggling at least two dozen and perhaps as many as 100 South Korean nationals into the United States from Canada.

Prosecutors said the undocumented immigrants were first brought to Seattle, and from there to Los Angeles, where many were forced to engage in sex work or other labor to pay off their transport fees.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo S. Martinez sentenced him to time served on Friday. Sohn now faces deportation.
