Hamilton, NJ – On Sunday, police arrested Sergio Fernando Solorzano-Vasquez, 27, after he allegedly attempted to steal a car at knifepoint from two elderly sisters.

The unidentified 94- and 92-year-old sisters had just finished shopping at a CVS drugstore on Route 33 when they got into their car, only to find Solorzano-Vasquez hiding in the backseat. He then began to slash at them with a knife, according to police.

However, these two sisters did not prove to be the easy marks this assailant may have hoped to find.

Sgt. Robert Miktus, of the Hamilton Township Police Department told CBS Philly: “He’s reaching toward the front seat with the knife towards the women. The driver, who’s 94 years old, threw her arm back to block him, to block the knife. [In the] meantime, the other sister, the 92-year-old in the passenger seat, jumped from the car, waved her arms and started screaming, attracting attention.”

Another customer noticed the commotion and called police.

According to a witness, Solorzano-Vasquez leapt from the car and ran, hiding behind a nearby dry cleaner.

Officers quickly located Solorzano-Vasquez in a nearby home, after discovering his hat and jacket lying on the ground, the Times of Trenton reported.

The 94-year-old woman reportedly sustained injuries to her arm but refused any medical attention.

Solorzano-Vasquez has been charged with robbery/carjacking, aggravated assault, and weapons possession. He is currently being held in the Mercer County Corrections Center on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer.
