A man with a knife broke into a Bergen woman’s bedroom before dawn this morning and tried to rape her before she screamed, bringing others who came running and held him for police, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said.

It was a little before 4:30 a.m. when the attacker broke into the Alliotts Place bedroom of the intended victim and pointed the knife while trying to rape her, the prosecutor said.

But she screamed, and roommates in the house grabbed hold of the man -- identified as Nery Chamale Cux (left), an illegal immigrant from Guatemala -- and held on to him, he said.

They called Palisades Park police, who quickly arrived and took him into custody, Molinelli said.

Cux, 27, who had been working at an area car wash, is being held on $200,000 bail, charged with attempted aggravated sexual assault, burglary and weapons possession.
