Another illegal border-crosser shot by bandits
ARIZONA DAILY STAR

An illegal entrant was shot by bandits early Saturday morning on Madera Canyon Road, a Border Patrol spokesman said.
The man was travelling with three other people when they were accosted by five to six bandits attempting to rob the group, said Jesús Rodriguez, a spokes-man for the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector.
The 40-year-old man was shot twice, in the left calf and the right knee. The rest of the illegal border crossers in his group ran away before the bandits could rob them, Rodriguez said.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department received reports at about 2 a.m. that someone had been shot in the Madera Canyon area about 20 miles south of Tucson. Pima County responded, with assistance from members of the Border Patrol, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the National Guard.
Border Patrol agents found the shooting victim and took him him by helicopter to University Medical Center.
It was the second reported shooting of an illegal entrant in Southern Arizona in a week. Border Patrol agents found a man from Mexico Wednesday bleeding from gun shot wounds, also in a leg, after his group of 10 illegal entrants was ambushed by four bandits carrying rifles near Arivaca.
