N.J.: Seven arrested on prostitution charges after strip clu

Seven arrested on prostitution charges after strip club raid
    by Michael Ratcliffe/The TimesFriday November 16, 2007, 6:03 PM
PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP -- Seven women, all but one of whom are in the United States illegally, were arrested for alleged prostitution after authorities raided a strip club on Thursday night, township police announced on Friday.

All seven women are Brazilian natives living in Essex County and each was charged with engaging in prostitution, police said. In addition to that charge, the six women who are in the U.S. illegally will face a hearing in federal court to determine if they can remain in the country or will be deported, police said.

Police said undercover officers went into Cheeks Gentleman's Club in the 100 block of South Pemberton Road and posed as customers.

Authorities raided the club after women working inside allegedly "agreed to perform sexual acts" for the undercover officers, police said.

Taking part in the investigation and raid were township police, state troopers, and officials from the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

Noting that Pereira is a legal resident of the U.S. while the others are in the country illegally, police identified the arrested women as follows:

Irene Pereira, 52, of Market Street, Newark
Lucilene Mendanha, 39, of Jabez Street, Newark
Edniea Jaronimo Do Prado, 24, of Ferry Street, Newark
Aurora Gallegos-Sanchez, 38, of Elma Street, Newark
Giselle Mora-Jimmenez, 44, of Livingston Street, Elizabeth
Liede Jesus Souza, 24, of Pattison Street, Newark
Edivaimis Jaronimo Do Prado, 36, of Ferry Street, Newark
Thursday's raid was not the first at Cheeks, which opened in 2005.

According to police, in September 2005 two exotic dancers were arrested on charges they offered sex acts in exchange for money to undercover officers, while in July 2006 several employees were arrested for various offenses, including prostitution and drug charges.

Homeland Security and the U.S. Air Force took part in the raid which netted 7 women????? Never heard of the U.S. military participating in a raid before. I believe there is more to this story than illegal alien prostitutes............is there a military base nearby?

Why didn't they do a clean sweep?
Cheeks Gentleman's Club owner and all employees should be charged with aiding, abetting and harboring illegals.
Every customer in the place at the time of the raid should have been charged with aiding and abetting illegals and being in a disorderly house.

That does sound odd that the AF take part - and yes, I do think there is a AF base nearby.

But why, if they know they are illegal and have broken the law, do they need to have a hearing to decide whether to deport them or not. Shouldn't just being illegal be enough?

PEMBERTON - Thousands of people travel past Cheeks on Route 38 everyday.

Many of them may wonder what the new place is like.
After months of renovations the new go-go club, Cheeks, is finally up and running, holding a grand opening July 15.
Owner Linda Dilullo is a veteran of the juice bar business and runs the business with nine other family members.
The family stared a similar business in Camden, and then opened Chers in Pennsauken, which they ran until about 10 years ago.
Dilullo said she worked at the Playhouse in Burlington for 13 years where she met a lot of the dancers that now appear at Cheeks, according to Dilullo's sister Lillian Hoffman.
"We want our girls to be happy. Our girls are protected. We do have a good crowd of girls here. We have about 80 girls because they are treated well and they know that," Hoffman said.
A dancer, calling herself "Sherry", said she has worked in the business for six years.
She started dancing to help pay for college, and likes meeting the "very interesting people".
She also said that all of the girls are very friendly, and the management is great.
Cheeks is open seven days a week from noon-2 a.m., Monday thru Saturday, and 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays.
On Friday night, they could have as many as 20 girls working, according to Dilullo.
During the week there may be less (about 15).
There are two stages, one behind the bar and one along the far wall of the bar. There are several couches were one can purchase a couch dance for $30.
The dance lasts about four minutes according to Hoffman.
The juice bar offers non-alcoholic beverages to the patrons.
There is a one drink minimum until 7 p.m. and a two drink minimum after.
Coffee, non-alcoholic beer, sodas and juice are all offered at $5 a drink.
Patrons may also bring their own beer or wine.
Cheeks has dancers ranging in ages 18 years and up. Patrons must be at least 18 years of age to enter.
If they are under 21 years of age they are provided with a wristband by the establishment.
Some people have tried to remove the wristband, however the bar staff is very good at spotting this according to Hoffman.
Cheeks does not have a dress code, however they do ask that no "colors" be worn on the premises by gang members.
The dancers wear bikini style attire with thongs and pasties as a minimum requirement while working.
Renovations completed by the new owners include the stages, and a dressing room (converted from a walk-in cooler).
The outside has improved parking areas which appear much larger due to the removal of debris around the lot according to Hoffman.
Cheeks is still making improvements as they are waiting for the arrival of poles for the girls to dance around.
They are also working on an enclosed sun porch for the girls Hoffman said.
The owners pride themselves on keeping an exceptionally clean environment. There is no litter anywhere inside or out and every area you enter inside the building smells freshly cleaned, according to Dilullo, who said the staff intends on keeping it that way.
Cheeks also offers food during business hours.
The chicken wings are very tasty according to Hoffman. They also have a variety of burgers, hoagies, salads, and sandwiches.
The club books private birthday and bachelor parties with advance notice and a $50 deposit. The party thrower can order birthday cake and/or buffet food if they wish. The bar can be sectioned off for privacy to party goers according to Hoffman.
When asked about the plans to widen Route 38, the owners said they are aware of the possibility.
"It has been talked about for how long now? If it happens then we have to sell" said Hoffman.
For more information about Cheeks you cay call the bar at 609-726-9700.

How are the girls "protected"? With under the counter pay-offs to local officials or by pimps or gang members? Sure makes it neighorhood-friendly since they ask no gang members wear their "colors".

This place reeks with criminal activity.

Let me get this straight--they recently raided this place and only arrested 7 prostitutes????????? What is wrong with this picture--officials didn't want to be accused of gang profiling???????
