N.J. Supreme Court to hear immigration crime case
The New Jersey Supreme Court will decide whether bail for an illegal immigrant can be significantly raised because a federal detainer has been placed on him, making it likely he would be deported before his criminal case is resolved. The high court issued an order today to hear an appeal by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office in the case State vs. Manuel Fajardo-Santos, a native of Honduras charged with sexually assaulting a child. His bail, originally $75,000 cash only, was raised Jan. 14 to $300,000 by Superior Court Judge John Dangler, sitting in Morristown.
