BRIDGETON — A East Avenue man was indicted Wednesday on allegations he beat his 6-month old son.

Daniel Ramirez, 23, a suspected illegal immigrant, was indicted for second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree aggravated assault and third-degree resisting arrest.

He was also charged with third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon for a belt that prosecutors said Ramirez used to beat his son on the thigh and buttocks.

The crime allegedly occurred during a Aug. 28 domestic incident in which police say Ramirez threatened his girlfriend and locked her in a bedroom.

Ramirez is being held without bail on a detainer issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
