Arrested men face deportation

DANBURY -- Two men arrested by Danbury police over the weekend in separate incidents will be turned over to federal immigration authorities because of their illegal immigration status, police said.
City police stopped Juan Chimbo while he was driving near the corner of Patriot Drive and Independence Way at 2:45 a.m. Sunday after police saw him cross the double yellow line twice on West Street. Police said they smelled alcohol after the stop, and Chimbo failed a field sobriety test.

Police said Chimbo refused to sign arrest forms, and he had no identification with him. He was charged with refusal to be processed, driving under the influence, driving without a license, and failure to drive right.

Once Chimbo, who gave an address of Griffing Avenue in Danbury, was fingerprinted, the prints were sent to federal authorities. Paula Grenier, spokeswoman with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Boston, said federal authorities have a deportation warrant for Chimbo, whose age was not available.

Danbury police spokesman Robert Myles said Chimbo was arraigned in Danbury Superior Court on Monday, and sent to the Bridgeport Correctional Center.

Grenier said Chimbo is being held by Connecticut authorities, and when he is released, he will be turned over to ICE officials to be deported.

In a second arrest, city police were called to the Cowboy Bar on Wildman Street because of a disturbance Friday night.

Police said the owner complained about a patron who threw a bar stool that damaged a ceiling light and a pool table.

Police charged Cassio Desouza of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Desouza was also uncooperative, police said, but was identified by ICE as having entered the country illegally after having once been deported.

Grenier said Desouza remains in state custody, and will be arrested by ICE when the state releases him.
