A chase near Harlingen led to one arrest and a seizure of almost 700 pounds of marijuana.

Leroy Quezada Jr. was arrested Wednesday afternoon by U.S. Border Patrol agents and was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration whose agents charged him with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, court records show.

On Thursday morning, Quezada went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio who ordered that he be held without bail pending a detention hearing next week. Quezada was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the DEA, Quezada was arrested by USBP agents in Harlingen after a chase where he tried to elude capture. Once arrested, the agents seized more than 694 pounds of marijuana that were stuffed in bundles inside the vehicle.

The complaint states that Quezada told Border Patrol agents that he was to be paid $1,300 to transport the marijuana to an undisclosed location.
