N.Y. Judge Signs Day Labor Agreement (Blood Pressure Alert)

N.Y. Judge Signs Day Labor Agreement

    © 2007 The Associated Press

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The federal judge who ruled that the Village of Mamaroneck was discriminating against Hispanic day laborers has signed the agreement that ends the case.

Terms of the settlement _ barring police officers from forcing laborers to move and from questioning their immigration status _ were revealed two weeks ago, but they were tentative until Judge Colleen McMahon signed the papers on Monday.
The federal judge's approval could help make the agreement a model for other municipalities dealing with day laborers.

The Mamaroneck lawsuit was filed after the New York City suburb closed an official day labor hiring site because of the increasing numbers of workers gathering there. When workers took to the streets to find work, they complained that police were harassing them.

As part of the settlement, the village has agreed to support a new hiring site on private property _ donated by a church _ which opened this month.

They KNOW these people are illegal. How can it be, in a country built and sustained by rule of law, that we have come to the point of blatantly ignoring criminals. I just can't wrap my mind around all this insanity.

Though day labor is often sone by illegal aliens there are some legal day laborers. It should be possible to recruit and then to infiltrate some of them into a site like Marmaroneck to report on who the employers are and if they check on labor immigration status. If the contractors are hiriing illegals they should be exposed.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

A sting! I don't know why that can't be done if there is anyone in authority truly interested in ferreting out the illegals. The problem seems to be that when local law enforcement reports an arrestee to ICE, they don't want them, and the locals don't have authority to institute deportation proceedings.
