Two Bend transients under surveillance for cocaine sales were arrested Thursday night during a traffic stop on Third Street and also face federal immigration charges, officers said.

Detectives from the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team had "received credible information" that Martin Lopez-Castro, 30, and Margarito Eguino-Castillo, 32, were involved in cocaine sales in the Bend area, said Deschutes County sheriff's Det. Sgt. Scott Shelton.

During surveillance, Bend police made a traffic stop of a van Lopez was driving, around 7 p.m. at Northeast Third Street and Norton Avenue, Shelton said.

During the contact and subsequent search of the van, detectives found more than a half-ounce of cocaine, worth about $500 on the street, and $850 in cash.

The two men were taken to the Deschutes County Jail on drug possession, delivery and manufacture charges. They also are being held without bail for federal immigration officials, a jail officer said.
