(CBS 13) ROSEVILLE, Calif. The babysitter accused of shaking a 15-month old Roseville girl to death is now facing immigration charges.

A Placer county judge took away the $500,000 bail for Veronica Martinez Salcedo Friday. Prosecutors confirmed Salcedo is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

The judge says Salcedo is not going anywhere until her trial. Police say Salcedo was babysitting little Hanna Rose two weeks ago when her parents came home and found their daughter unresponsive.

The child was first taken to the hospital on after paramedics came to the Roseville home on a call for an unresponsive baby. Salcedo was initially arrested earlier in May on a child abuse charges, but police have now changed that charge to homicide.

Here is a clue: You get what you pay for. I can't tell you how many people back in Va. leftr their kids with illegals who couldn't even speak english. Those kids were left 12+ hours a day and were only charging $75.00 a week These parents couldn't care less about the quality of care as long as it was cheap and these were people making $100,000 a year

    These parents couldn't care less
Nor do they care about the possible spread of infectious diseases that put us all at risk. Remember that this risk is then carried to our schools, hospitals, and neighborhoods.

We have laws that (rightly so) require that children use car seats or seat belts. We also have child resistant medication and drug bottles. And we have gun lock as well as helmet laws that help keep child safe.

But parents are allowed to hire nannies and babysitters with out any laws, rules, or regulations whatsoever.

Not to mention the countless unlicensed daycare "centers" that operate in our neighborhoods. The vast majority of these businesses pay no taxes and operate without any regulations, safety guide lines, employee back ground checks, or inspections of any kind. Innocent children pay the price of this insanity.

The almighty dollar is again the root of the problem.
