The Rights Working Group, a national coalition of more than 250 community-based groups and national organizations, will kick off a new campaign Thursday.
The Night of 1,000 Conversations is aimed at having people across the country gather in homes, offices, coffee shops and places of worship to talk and generate a response to hold the U.S. Department of Homeland Security accountable for what the Rights Working Group calls the continuous undermining of the civil liberties and human rights of people in the U.S.
The group wants the Department of Homeland Security to end immigration raids that lock up people without due process; ensure safe humane detention conditions and access to a trial; and provide fair and efficient mechanisms to end the backlog in processing citizenship applications by September.
“Our hope, is that by holding these conversations across the country, we can promote awareness of these issues and mobilize people to take action,â€Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!
