Congressman Chris Cannon e-mails me back.

    June 18, 2007

    Dear Paige:

Thank you for allowing me the benefit of your views on the issue of illegal immigration. I would like to assure you at the outset that I am opposed to any kind of amnesty for illegal immigrants. Controlling and strengthening our borders is the fundamental responsibility of our federal government, and Congress must fulfill its duty. My commitment to resolving this issue is absolute, as can be seen by my voting record. I have consistently voted for every House measure that would increase border security and enforce our immigration laws.

In the 109th Congress, I voted for a number of bills that focused on border security. H.R. 4437, with my strong support, passed the House of Representatives. This legislation provides greater enforcement by increasing the number and funding for border patrol agents, as well as building a physical barrier in the most trafficked areas. I also voted in favor of H.R. 6061, "The Secure Fence Act," which requires the construction of a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border. It is an emergency measure that mandates operational control of borders and ports through enhanced Border Patrol operations, physical barriers, and state-of-the-art technology along the southwest border. I also voted for H.R. 6089, "The Illegal Immigration Deterrence and Public Safety Act." This legislation reaffirms the authority of local law enforcement to investigate, detain, and transfer to federal custody illegal immigrants without imposing mandates. In conjunction with this, I supported H.R. 6091,"The Border Security Enhancement Act," which allows the Department of Homeland Security to use the same expedited procedures available for the removal of aggravated felons to remove other criminal aliens who are not permanent residents of our nation. And most recently, I voted in favor of H.R. 1018, "The Effective Immigration Enforcement and Community Act." This bill serves to impose "catch and return" rather than "catch and release" measures that have been exploited by illegal immigrants in the past. Under this bill, any illegal immigrant found to be part of a criminal gang is subject to deportation and is ineligible to receive asylum or temporary protected status.

I applaud the passage of these bills as they provide real solutions to the myriad of problems that plague the current immigration system. While the situation is far from resolved, these pieces of legislation are certainly a step in the right direction and need to be included in any immigration reform measure this Congress. MY REPLY
    Dear Congressman Cannon

These bills that you have voted for really do not mean anything to the American public. For myself this is doubly true. I live around 5 homes that are occupied by illegal immigrants. I have witnessed license plate switching, broken zoning regulations, human smuggling and drug trafficking. I have called my city, my police department, ICE and immigration. I have called your office, governor Huntsman's office, Senator Hatch's office and Senators Bennett's office on numerous occasions. I have written letters and sent e-mails to your office which is proof here, Senator Hatch's office, Senator Bennett's office, Governor Huntsman's office, my city police department's office's, my mayors office and my City Hall.
I still have 5 homes with illegal's living in them breaking laws, not assimilating, have children by the bucket fulls and living in filth. My street looks like an apartment complex filled with cars that the license plate numbers are never the same from one day to the next.
No one I mean no one wants to come to my neighborhoods aid. We are told sorry, there is nothing we can do.
So Congressman Cannon again I am telling you that the bills you have voted on mean nothing to me or to the citizen's of Utah or the United States.
I have yet to see one of your bills mean anything. Where is the fence? Where are the policeman to pick up the illegals to detain and deport?
What has one of these laws done to protect myself and my family while you sit up in your office and vote on meaningless bill's? You are wasting my time and yours by telling me what is on the books. I know your record and I know it means nothing.
Please do not insult my intelligence any longer. Do for once what is right. Follow our Constitution, protect the citizens of Utah and vote no on this bill. Voting yea on this bill is a vote for amnesty. It is a vote to rid the United States of our Constitution. I want you to protect the American Citizen by following the Constitution of the United States of America. I do not want anymore promises. The only thing you can do for us is to vote against this bill.
