Article Launched: 03/28/2008 12:03:55 PM MDT

MEXICO CITY—Mexico's federal government is authorizing a new international bridge that will connect the Mexican town of Rio Bravo with Donna, Texas.
The Communications and Transportation Department says it has granted the final permit necessary to begin construction on the bridge on Mexico's side of the border.

The U.S. has already begun constructing the structure, scheduled to be completed in 2009

Where are the Texas citizens? They should be screaming about this. I am totally blown away that they would not be on every radio station.

Before you know it, it will be just like the inspection station between Tijuana and San Diego....The only one it works for is Mexico, they can come here but if we go there we will be lucky to leave with our life!

Kind of like the trucking pilot program during the Mary Peters hearings a question was asked how many American trucks were traveling into Mexico and the man who was there for questioning said none that he new of, because company's or Indepenant truckers were to worried what would happen to them or their trucks....so kind of a one way thing as usual.

I don't believe this bridge is a Texas project--since it is an international bridge, it must be a federal undertaking.

Our border fence is not built.
But the U.S. is funding a border fence for Egypt.
Part of Bush's $1.4 billion aide package to Mexico is for a border fence along it's southern border.
The Mexican government is not in charge of its own country.
Mexican government and officials have a corruption problem.
The Mexican government aids illegal immigrants crossing into our country illegally.
The Mexican government does not respect our laws.
Our border agents are understaffed and work under dangerous conditions and yet limited in their power to react.
The National Guard is to be withdrawn from the border in July.
Congress said no to funding the U.S.-Mexican truck project.
$1.6 trillion is needed over the next 5 years to bring the United State's infrastructure into good condition.
Has the government forgotten the Minneapolis bridge collapse?

The United States needs to concentrate on improving the United States and its national security.

Heck, the ones in the Donna area aren't going to say anything because they have relatives across the river. Truth be known, they probably had a big part in pushing for the bridge at that specific location. It would seem that National security is not a concern for many living along the border. The reasons probably vary depending on what you have to gain from bridges vice fences (access to drugs, family, exchange of commerce, business profits, etc.).
