A man, who was wanted in Clinton County, Pa., was charged in Alamance County Tuesday with making false identification cards and selling them.

The Alamance City-County Gang Crimes Task Force received information earlier this month from an informant that Hector Hugo Zuniga of Burlington was allegedly making false identification cards, according to a task force news release.

Officers started an investigation, which led them to Zuniga's apartment on North Church Street, where he was arrested Tuesday.

"As a result of this arrest, officers seized fraudulent resident alien cards, fraudulent Social Security cards, one Polaroid camera, multiple identification-card style photographs and over 100 Social Security numbers written in notebooks," the release states.

Zuniga was processed at the Alamance County jail through the 287 (g) program, and authorities discovered he was using an alias. He was identified as Apolonio Ceja Salinas, 25, and is currently living in this country illegally, the release states.

Salinas was charged with trafficking in identity theft and manufacturing fraudulent identity cards. He was placed in jail under no bond.

Authorities are now in contact with the Social Security Administration to determine whose Social Security numbers Salinas had listed in the notebook, said Randy Jones, spokesman for the Alamance County Sheriff's Department.

"They are tracking down each individual Social Security number, and it's time-consuming," Jones said. "They are checking to determine whether the numbers belong to the deceased or have been stolen."

Jones said that Salinas may face more charges once that investigation is completed.

After authorities determined Salinas' real identity, his name was run through a database maintained by the National Crime Information Center. Salinas is wanted by the Clinton County Sheriff's Department in Lock Haven, Pa. for a traffic-related offense.

Salinas is allegedly wanted on driving while impaired charges and Clinton County officials are seeking extradition. Salinas' name was entered in the NCIC system in April 2003, Jones said.

He said agencies don't typically seek extradition for individuals wanted on DWI charges, unless some type of serious injury occurred. Information about those charges wasn't immediately available.

Glad for the informant and glad this area has 287(g). Wished they would use DWI as a deportation tool.

The 100 Social Security Numbers has me worried. Where did he get them? There was a story a few years ago about a woman in California that got a huge bill for unpaid taxes for working in 119 places simultaneously across the country. Someone had gotten ahold of her SSN. We absolutely need E-Verify!
