Alamance County Addresses Food Stamp Problem

Alamance County’s food stamp program came under scrutiny Tuesday during a county Department of Social Services meeting, according to the Burlington Times News.

DSS Board member Caroll Wood said she wants a better explanation on how food stamp benefits are distributed through illegal immigrants.

Wood met with her fellow board members Tuesday and questioned why non-qualified aliens were included in the monthly food stamp recipient household report.

Almost 900 illegal immigrants who are heads of households in Alamance County reportedly received food stamp electronic benefit transfer cards monthly from April to June.

The county had not previously recorded how many illegal immigrant heads of households had received the cards until this year, the paper reported.
