One of two men charged last week in the theft of a tractor in Rowan County faces more charges because investigators say he gave them a false name.

Rowan County sheriff's investigators have charged Juan Hernandez Resenpez, 37, with felony identity theft and misdemeanor providing false information to law enforcement.

Investigators have also determined that Resenpez is in the country illegally, and a federal detainer has been placed on him, sheriff's Detective Lt. C.A. Moose said.

Resenpez remained in the Rowan County Detention Center this morning, also charged with felony larceny, felony conspiracy to commit a larceny, felony possession of burglary tools, and misdemeanor resist delay and obstruct.

Resenpez initially identified himself to authorities as Ramiro Silva Valdez, 42, of Graham.

"The real Valdez was unaware this subject was using his name and doesn't know the subject," Moose said.
