Myrick reintroducing DWI bill Monday 12:09 PM

US Representative Sue Myrick is planning to announce the reintroduction of the Scott Gardner Act in Congress during a news conference Monday afternoon.

Family members of Scott Gardner, Jasmine Lawrence, and Leeanna Newman are expected to attend. All three were killed by illegal immigrants who are accused of driving drunk.

The Scott Gardner Act is named after Scott Gardner, a high school teacher from Gaston County, NC who was killed by Ramiro Gallegos. Scott’s wife, Tina, has significant brain damage and his two young children are being cared for by their grandparents. Gallegos had five previous DWI’s. Gallegos has pleaded guilty to drunk driving charges in Gardner’s case and will be deported when he gets out of prison in 14 years.

Recently, there have been other similar tragedies. Jasmine Lawrence and Min Chang were both killed by illegal immigrants accused of drinking and driving on Charlotte area roads. Several weeks ago, Leeanna Newman, 20, was killed in Rowan County when her car was struck by an illegal immigrant who police said later admitted to getting behind the wheel after drinking tequila. Leeanna's unborn child also died in the wreck.

The Scott Gardner Act states that any illegal alien convicted of a DWI will face automatic deportation. It also requires information on illegal alien drunk drivers be placed into the National Criminal Information Center database so that repeat offenders won't fall through the cracks.

Two more people (father & 9-year-old soon) were killed in NC by another drunk driving illegal alien Sunday evening.
